Central Dispatch is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where new challenges and learning opportunities arise daily. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of Averitt's operations while playing a critical role in the movement of freight throughout our network. Associates in Central Dispatch develop a broad understanding of freight flow, transportation logistics, equipment utilization, and operational decision-making across the Averitt footprint.
Training & Schedule
During training your schedule will be Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During this time, you'll build foundational knowledge of the department and its processes. Once training is complete, you will remain on days and work a rotating 4-on/4-off schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate freight movement throughout the Averitt network to support efficient service and operational performance.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of freight paths, interstate systems, highways, service center locations, and meet points.
- Communicate and collaborate with shuttle, team, and sleeper drivers, as well as service center leadership, to ensure effective freight management.
- Utilize dispatch technology platforms, including Omni, Platform Science, MAVIN, and other operational systems.
- Gain proficiency with the 130 and 230 linehaul screens and other dispatch-related tools.
- Maintain knowledge of Hours of Service regulations and apply that knowledge when making operational decisions.
- Understand Averitt's equipment fleet, capabilities, and best-use applications to support network efficiency.
- Assist with the management of sleeper and team driver PTO schedules to help ensure appropriate coverage and operational continuity.
